About KVC West Virginia
KVC West Virginia is a private, nonprofit organization that serves over 3,000 children, teens and adults each year. Our team of caring professionals provides home- and community-based services that strengthen families and prevent foster care, outpatient mental health therapy, foster care, foster parent recruitment and support, adoption, and youth academic and mentorship programs.

Slow Down, Tune In & Breathe – First Star Saturday Academy

Join us for a unique First Star Saturday Academy presentation, where we learn how to manage stress through therapeutic breathing techniques and stretching.
KVC’s own Kimberly White, case manager extraordinaire and certified Yoga instructor, will teach us how to listen to our bodies’ cues when it’s time to take a break and practice some self-care. Kimberly will show us some helpful breathing techniques to help us stay in control while experiencing big emotions or when life gets complicated.
She will also teach us some spine and neck/shoulder stretches to promote relaxation in the body and help calm us down when life gets complicated.
Presentation Objectives:
- Learn why breathing is so important for regulating stress
- How to listen for cues
- Practice makes perfect – creating your plan for stress management
- Learn grounding, orienting, and centering skills
About the Presenter

Kimberly White is a certified yoga instructor with prenatal and trauma-informed certifications. She grew up in Logan, West Virginia and graduated from Marshall in 2012 with a degree in psychology. Kimberly has studied abroad in Eastern Europe and graduated with a Masters’s degree in counseling in 2021 from Lindsey Wilson College. She has been working in foster care since 2014. She is an avid traveler and has been to 25 countries.
